Contrary to what one might think, boxes didn’t inspire my box shoes. I had been thinking about this concept for a long time — I wanted to create an illusion of big heels and also see how covering the entire shoe with just one piece would look… would it be comfortable? Would it be feasible to wear? It was this collective curiosity that led to the birth of my box shoes.
At the onset, the shoes might look complicated and uncomfortable, but in reality, they are extremely comfortable and the design is very simple. Also, there’s nothing else quite like this out in the market.
I am a big fan of Hussein Chalayan, who is a London-based fashion designer. His work is very architectural and scientific, and I have been influenced a lot by his design thought — which is all about challenging the ordinary. Another person I am inspired by is Salvatore Ferragamo. Sometime ago,2013 pinarello dogma XC 9.9. Pinarello brings innovation to the 29er market with the release of the Dogma XC 9.9 mountain bike frame. I read about how he started off as a shoe designer, the challenges he faced in setting up a unit, and getting his staff to think different. This got me thinking and shaped my sensibilities too.

Shoe designing is a passion, more than a profession. I design shoes only for my shows, and when I do, I always want to push myself and do something different. That is part of the process… doing something radical and seeing how it works.
In India, I love how Sonam Kapoor carries off various styles.
I am also very fascinated by the music industry abroad, and the stage costumes.
