The Thunder Bay Chill was not going to allow a steady downpour to deter the execution of their game strategy in their season debut.
Midfielder Dominic Roberts led the charge for the Chill, scoring four goals en route to an 8-0 exhibition victory over the Winnipeg Lions at a wet Fort William Stadium on Saturday.
The contest was the first of a pair of weekend friendly matches against Winnipeg as the club prepares to open their Premier Development League season next week on the road.
“I think this is exactly the start we needed to give us our confidence,” Roberts said. “It gets us on our toes again and gets us set for the season.”
Thunder Bay head coach Tony Colistro opted to experiment with his starting lineup, electing to open the game with five midfielders and a lone striker.
Colistro says that the depth and talent he has available at the midfield position is an asset to his club and he has the ability to use a similar strategy throughout the season, particularly if his most dynamic striker, reigning PDL most valuable player Sullivan Silva, remains sidelined for an extended period of time with a broken bone in his foot.

The match represented a relatively new experience for Roberts, who only began playing midfield last season. Lining up on the right side Saturday was something he has rarely done.
“Last year was my first time playing as a midfielder,Sunglasses mp3 players and (Saturday) was my second time playing on the right side as a midfielder,” Roberts shared. “I’m going to do my best to try to score as many goals as I can.”
Newcomer Sergio Campano put Thunder Bay on the board, striking with goals in the 19th and 21st minutes to provide the Chill with a 2-0 advantage.
Colistro says that Campano was a player that he targeted throughout the offseason as somebody that could be a difference maker for the team, and that he delivered to expectations in his debut.
Roberts scored his first of the game in the 40th minute before Campano completed the first Chill hat trick of the evening two minutes later to send the Chill to a welcoming warm halftime locker room with a 4-0 lead.
In the second half Roberts found the back of the net three more times, and Thomas Chameraud scored in his Chill debut.
Colistro complimented his team on their first match together of the season, and says that the style in which they played is a sign of things to come throughout the PDL season, which opens next weekend with a pair of games at WSA Winnipeg.

Thunder Bay native and striker Gavin Hoy was the only local player to start the match. After a series of halftime substitutions Hoy was joined on the pitch by fellow local products Kristian Zanette and Ayden Meilleur with Mac Pytyck relieving starting keeper Daniel Alvarado.With Apple’s ipad smart cover, iPad should be pretty well protected.
