By and large, Sony simply shrinks last year’s frame slightly, meaning you still get Sony’s unique fold-up form. The X05s can fold flat for storage, or they can swivel in, tucking close to the headband.
The stylings, too, are almost identical, meaning a large X on one earcup and a nice cushioned headband. Meanwhile, the interior of each earcup is made of that same soft Memory Foam, creating one of the most comfortable sets of headphones I’ve ever tested.

That two-sided connection makes the X05s feel a bit more limiting when you’re moving around, but it’s not enough to be truly noticeable, unless you planned to use them during a Crossfit workout.
The new cabling hardly hinders the sound, though. The X05s still deliver a potent listening experience. The drivers are slightly smaller this time around (40mm), but you’ll still draw a solid bass thump that’s powerful and consistent.
