The collection includes Khalitha/Khadiya, the ancestors of modern shoulder bags; Gabchi that was used to store books to prevent them from wear and tear; Batwa to store money and precious jewellery; and Kothla and Kothli that were used by nomads and travellers to store bigger items. All the cloth bags at the exhibition are adorned with embroidery and stitching work.
Gadhvi further said that the artwork on the bags reflected the region and the community which had made them. For example, use of waves indicated that a bag was from coastal areas, intricate stitches indicated Kathi community or glass and bead work was evidence of a bag's Kutch origin, he said.
