Philip Guest had just opened Guest & Philips jewellers in Saturday Market, Beverley, yesterday when he saw two masked men running towards the entrance carrying guns.
He went outside to challenge them but was ordered back in at gunpoint.
Mr Guest said: “I was in the window and saw them running up the entrance of the arcade. I immediately realised what was happening because they had guns.I want my Hiking footwear Sale and other outdoor footwear to last a long time, even with regular use and abuse.

Mr Guest could only hear what was happening as he was in another room and ran upstairs with an assistant to call for help through an open window.
He said many people in the street appeared to be filming the incident on mobile phones, and a delivery driver then used his van to block the escape route of the getaway vehicle, a silver Vauxhall Omega, driven by a third man, that was waiting outside.
“As they came out they held a gun to his head and he had to make way,” Mr Guest said.
Mr Guest, a partner in the business, then made one final bold attempt to stop one of the robbers before they sped off.
“I picked up a large Chinese vase and managed to hit him with it,” he said.

The gang is believed to have stolen about 47 Cartier and 16 Gucci watches, worth between ￡80,000 and ￡90,000.
The car, registration KHO3 UJA, was found abandoned with its engine running a short time later on a farm in York Road, near Beverley Westwood.
It is thought the men then made off along York Road in a second vehicle, a silver saloon car, driven by a fourth man.
The Omega is thought to have been bought in Hull within the past week.
Officers gave chase and deployed the Humberside Police helicopter but have yet to locate the suspects or the second car. A team of about 50 detectives are now working on the case.
