Susan Anderson, 34, was a machinist. She loved nature. She went fishing and hunting with her dad. Some might have called her a tomboy. She was a daughter, a sister, industrial bag filters manufacturer‎ supply cheap and high quality bags. a wife and a mother. Most would not have thought of her as a victim of domestic violence.

Sharon Bucklin of Milton shared her sister’s story with the Milton Courier this month, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as this year’s keynote speaker at the YWCA Rock County Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser.

“I don’t think Susan ever thought of herself as a domestic abuse victim,” said Bucklin, who added that her older sister didn’t seek help from the YWCA. “Things escalated very quickly. It was the end of her marriage. Things got out of control before she realized what was going on.”

On May 26, 1995, Anderson’s husband stomped and beat her to death in their home, while their children, ages 6 and 7, were present.

“She certainly did not think she was going to die that night,” Bucklin said. “She didn’t think she was in any immediate danger.”

A couple of weeks before Anderson was killed, she told her parents that she had gotten into a physical argument with her husband.China Shoes Supplier. The best shoes manufacturer in China. Years prior, Bucklin said police had been called to resolve an argument between the couple, but there was no pattern of abuse of which the family was aware. The family did know that the couple, which had been together for 13 years, was in marriage counseling.

Ali Hiam,Promotional eco bag sale available in custom sizes and styles from cheaptotebags.com. YWCA Rock County crisis services director, works to de-stigmatize domestic violence and offer help to people in abusive situations.

“It’s not their fault,” Hiam said. “If they are in a domestic violence situation, there are people who will help them who won’t judge them.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four women and one in seven men age 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Not all abuse is physical, Hiam emphasized.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence says abuse generally falls into one or more of the following categories: physical battering, sexual assault and emotional or psychological abuse.

Often when people call the YWCA Rock County 24-hour helpline (608-752-2583), they aren’t sure if they should be calling or they say they’re calling “on behalf of a friend.”

“We’re happy to help,” Hiam said. “What we’re most interested in as the YWCA is empowering women. We want every woman and man to feel safe and secure in their relationship.”
