Research conducted by a University of Toronto professor and his students has concluded that retailers at Square One Shopping Centre aren't complying with new federal rules on surveillance.branded usb sticks come in different forms and shapes, but they all use flash memory.
Andrew Clement, a professor of information studies, says his students found that only 30 per cent of the surveillance cameras at two prominent local malls were properly identified to the public, something that's required by law.
The researchers studied the video surveillance practices at Square One and Toronto's Eaton Centre.
Under the law, stores must post signs outside their entrances telling customers that video surveillance is being used.
