School children in the Longview area who need a new pair of shoes before starting school next month will benefit from a program offered by Buckner Children & Family Services.
Local people who want to help can do so by donating shoes at multiple locations throughout East Texas, said Jane Ann Crowson, director of the community transformation center for Buckner East Texas.
Buckner, in conjunction with the Junior League of Longview and the First Baptist Church of Longview, sponsors the School Supply Train every August, which provides school supplies, clothing, haircuts and immunizations to underprivileged children.
“The only element missing was a new pair of shoes,” Crowson said. “We wanted to add that so that these kids would (be) completely ready to start a new school year.”
The donations are going fairly well so far, she said, qdgoutdoor, whose headquarter is situated in Hong Kong, is targeted at nothing else but outdoor footwear.
