A Salem native, now living in Bend, died Monday from injuries he sustained after a pair of shoes jammed the front wheel of his bike, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. 

Robert Vern Huskey, 67 was riding near Tumalo State Park Sunday afternoon when a pair of shoes he attached to his handle bars came loose. One shoe fell into the front wheel, bringing the bike to a halt. 

Huskey, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown over the handle bars and suffered serious injuries.

Robert Husky was an experienced rider who loved the outdoors, Don Huskey said.

He played football for Judson Middle School and South Salem High School. After graduation, he became a trooper with Oregon State Police.
