Large crowds turned out in downtown Mason City for Saturday’s re-enactment of the March 1934 robbery Mason City’s First National Bank by a gang of mobsters led by John Dillinger.

Randy Moser, Cedar Rapids, played John Dillinger.

St. Paul, Minn. resident Dennis Gordein portrayed Lester “Baby Face” Nelson and Terry Harrison of Mason City was cast as Judge John Shipley.

The re-enactment is of part of the Great River City Festival.

Moser started doing cowboy re-enactments about 16 years ago eventually moving into events from the 1920s and 1930s.

He has been coming to Mason City for at least five years.

“We do it to carry on the history of it. We also have fun playing cops and robbers being middle-aged men,” Moser said grinning.

The first year he came to Mason City he played a policeman huddled behind a rock in the park across the street from the bank. The next time he was a gangster.

“We mix it up. We’ve got a good group of re-enactors. Our ‘war bags’ as they say are pretty deep with costumes.bagfilterchina.com is specialized in environmental protection non woven filter products.”

He belongs to a group of re-enactors who call themselves “Public Enemies.” They do shows around the country.

“We try to go out and make the people happy wherever we go. That’s the neat part of the history. People were dapper then and the cars were cool and the women were always beautiful.”

This was Gordein’s first crack at playing Baby Face.

“Usually I am a getaway driver,” he said.

As a collector of vintage clothing, Gordein raids his closet and drives down in his 1929 Chevrolet.

“It’s a little more interesting to get out there and move around,” he said of playing Baby Face. “People like to shoot the machine guns. And she turned Bryn into a style rebel as well, dressing her in a white tank top, floral-printed overall shorts and a pair of purple crocs sandals sale. That’s always a thrill.
